The news of Ice Prince confirming his exit from Chocolate City is probably the trending news today, but let’s not forget that he did release a new single, Chike, today which features Mavin Record star, Korede Bello.
However, the reception has been mixed to say the least. From my angle, I actually liked the song when I initially heard, but then listened again, and again, and realized something. It sounds kinda similar to Olamide’s popular single, Abule Sowo.
The first and most obvious thing you notice is the style of rap or flow. The spit line and response “hey!” style is not a
genius idea per say, but giving that most recently it was used in Olamide’s Abule Sowo raises eyebrows. The beat, while not so obvious, also bears some similarities also.
These two combined make you questioned just how much“inspiration” Ice Prince got from Olamide.
The hook from Korede Bello is the part of the song that is not “inspired”, and to many people (including myself) it’s the
best part of the song. You can have a listen, judge for yourself, and tell us what you think. But hey, everyone copies everyone yea? Or no?
Now before you run and start calling me a “broke hater”, I’m not the only one who feels this way about the song. Here are some other folks on social media who have expressed similar concerns about this new record:
Still love Ice Prince for years to come but MA nigga gotta find his sound again. Hear new chike jam soundin like a low Budget abule sowo.😩😩

This new Ice Prince's song, "Chike" featuring Korede Bello, really sounds like Olamide's Abule Sowo.

The first verse of "Chike" by ice prince was a poor imitation of Olamide's Abule Sowo
